Loadouts & Credits — NMRIH 2

Loadouts decide how dangerous your first minute feels. In No More Room in Hell 2, Credits purchased through successful supply and extract loops feed the character shop so Responders can begin deployments with better melee, tools, medical items, and—after Armageddon 1.0—insurance like the Rescue Beacon. The 1.0 economy overhaul and account reset window made smart spending more important than ever: veterans and newcomers start closer together, and wasteful shops hurt.

This page is a practical spending guide for Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series players in online eight-player co-op.

How loadouts work (post-1.0 framing)

Loadout items are character-bound. Gear you buy for one Responder does not automatically transfer to another. If that Responder dies permanently, expect to repurchase essentials for the next character unless account unlocks say otherwise. Surviving extracts keep your equipped kit available for the next queue, which is why extract discipline and Beacons matter.

Credits primarily come from productive deployments—supplies and objectives that convert into character growth and shop power. Merits from Weekly Assignments add a second currency lane aimed at cosmetics and flexible purchases. Do not confuse Merits with a free win button; they reward consistent weekly play.

First purchases that actually save runs

Priority order for most players:

  1. A melee weapon you can control under fatigue.
  2. Bandages / medkit access for bleeds.
  3. Phalanx Pills before fancy firearms.
  4. Utility that opens paths (tools, throwable control) if your role needs it.
  5. Rescue Beacon once the character’s skills are worth protecting—see Rescue Beacon.
  6. Gene Therapy only when you understand the two-step inject and can afford the slot.

Avoid dumping early Credits into loud guns you will fire twice and then starve for ammo. Read Weapons Tier List for scarcity-aware rankings.

Role-based loadout sketches

  • Executioner / melee — durable blade or blunt, pills, light utility.
  • Medic float — meds first, pills, consider gene therapy knowledge, Beacon if valuable.
  • Breacher — tools and control items, then medical insurance.
  • Marksman — only after the squad already has quiet answers; ammo discipline required.

Pair kits with Best Builds and How to Unlock Skills so passive skills match your shop plan.

Spending rules after the Armageddon wipe

  1. Rebuild fundamentals before cosmetics.
  2. One insured main beats three half-kitted alts.
  3. Rebuy after deaths immediately—do not queue naked out of tilt.
  4. Practice routes in Solo Mode before expensive Hard climbs.
  5. Recheck shop prices after patches—economy numbers can shift.

Common mistakes

  • Buying shotguns before you can stay alive to loot shells.
  • Ignoring pills because “we play carefully.”
  • Skipping Beacons on a fully skilled main while queuing public Nightmare.
  • Treating Merits as required for combat power when Credits cover survival tools.

Loadouts only matter if you extract. Use How to Extract, Raven Rock, and Difficulty Modes so shop power converts into living Responders. ## Session budget example

After a clean Normal extract:

  1. Top off pills and bandages first.
  2. Repair or replace the melee you actually swing.
  3. Fund a Beacon if the Responder’s skill board is painful to rebuild.
  4. Only then glance at cosmetics with Merits from Weekly Assignments.

If the extract failed, do not open the cosmetic tab. Rebuild survival tools, practice the failed map in Solo Mode or reread Raven Rock, then queue again with a thinner ego and a thicker med bag.

Cross-play friends on console should share the same priority list so PC Credits culture does not pressure pad players into loud guns they cannot sustain. A squad that shops together extracts together.

The Armageddon shop is deep—your restraint should be deeper.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Responders preparing for the next deployment.

Are loadout items shared between characters?

No. Purchases are character-specific. A dead Responder means rebuilding the next one.

What should I buy first with Credits?

Controllable melee, basic medical tools, then Phalanx Pills. Fancy guns can wait.

What are Merits?

A secondary currency from weekly assignments, useful for cosmetics and flexible shop choices alongside Credits.

When do I buy a Rescue Beacon?

After a Responder’s skills become expensive to replace, especially before Hard climbs.

Did 1.0 change the economy?

Yes. Armageddon overhauled earning and spending around an account reset. Relearn priorities instead of copying Early Access habits.
