No More Room in Hell 2 Beyond Armageddon: NMRIH 2 Roadmap Guide

September features, Autumn endgame systems, and the Hell Mode target for 2026.

Beyond Armageddon — NMRIH 2

The August 20, 2026 developer blog titled “Beyond Armageddon” is the first public statement of Torn Banner’s post-1.0 content roadmap. It names two confirmed Autumn updates, three announced systems in development, and one stretch target the team hopes to ship before the end of 2026. Use this page to understand what is confirmed, what is being investigated, and what you should not treat as shipped until official patch notes appear.

Two confirmed updates for Autumn 2026

September update: controllers, UI, and map variety

The September window is the first content delivery after the second post-launch hotfix. Its stated priorities are:

  • Controller deadzone improvements — aimed at fixing the loose-stick feel reported on consoles and PC with gamepads. Recalibrate your sensitivity settings after this patch lands.
  • Better UI menu navigation — both controller-aware menu improvements and mouse/KB flow. The August 13 note listed menu navigation jumping back to the top after every option change; this update targets that class of bug.
  • New Lewiston objective permutations — the existing map gains additional route variants so each run feels less repetitive. Study Lewiston Walkthrough and Maps & Objectives before this ships so you can compare what changes.
  • New Pottsville scenario — a brand-new objective flow that restructures how the map plays. Pair with Pottsville Walkthrough.
  • New weapon attachments — muzzle modifications and laser sights that change what firearms can do. This is not just visual; the blog frames these as meaningful gameplay changes. Weapons Tier List will update when patch notes describe attachment stats.

October update: more run choices

October adds additional gameplay items that offer more decisions during a run without overwhelming new Responders or invalidating past builds. Individual items have not been revealed. The blog frames this as expanding tactical options mid-match.

Three announced systems in development

Responder Retirement (later Autumn)

Responder Retirement is a planned endgame system for maxed-out Responders. The fantasy: send a level-50 character to rest in exchange for account-wide boons for future Responders and exclusive cosmetic rewards. This is designed for players who have already cleared Nightmare and have a roster of fully developed Responders.

Because Retirement benefits future characters, it creates a long-term progression loop beyond individual character grinding. The Progression & Permadeath page will need an update once official rules appear in patch notes.

Responder Memorial (later Autumn)

The Memorial is a planned record of past Responders accessible to all players — including those whose Responders died rather than retired. The dev blog says it should be available even if you never retire a character. This is a cosmetic and nostalgic feature rather than a mechanical one, but it adds narrative weight to the permadeath system.

XP events and in-game indicators (later Autumn)

The team plans to add in-game UI that highlights when XP or currency events are active — similar to the bonus weekends that ran during Late Access. This gives players more visibility into limited-time progression boosts without relying on external Discord announcements.

One stretch target: Hell Mode

Hell Mode is described as an experience beyond Nightmare — harder than the current highest difficulty, with a heavy investment requirement and no guaranteed success. The dev blog says the team “hopes to release before the end of 2026” and explicitly stops short of a firm commitment. Treat this as a target, not a promise.

Until official rules appear, do not assume:

  • That it replaces Nightmare.
  • That it is accessible without a full Nightmare-clear roster.
  • Any specific reward structure.

Check the Updates Hub after each patch in Q4 2026 for Hell Mode status.

Investigations: not promises

Two features are described as under active investigation with no announced release windows:

  • Expanded Solo Mode progression — the team is looking at how to add meaningful long-term goals to Solo beyond match-by-match practice. The goal stated is preserving the co-op focus while giving Solo players more to work toward.
  • Subtitles — a stated accessibility priority under investigation. No date, no scope confirmed.

Do not treat either of these as confirmed features.
