No More Room in Hell 2 Unstuck and Reconnect

Recover from geometry traps and load crashes without abandoning a living Responder.

Unstuck & Reconnect — NMRIH 2

Armageddon 1.0 added two recovery tools that launch-week squads still treat as rumors: Unstuck and Reconnect. They exist because No More Room in Hell 2 is a permadeath co-op game on four platforms, and a clip into a railing or a crash on the loading screen should not be a character funeral. This page is the practical contract for Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Bind literacy still lives on Controls. Party etiquette lives on Play with Friends. Use this page when someone is physically stuck or missing after a map load.

Do not treat either tool as a shortcut past a speaker hold or a Critical POI. Torn Banner shipped them as client safety valves. Players who “Unstuck” through a locked door are gambling the relocate point and the cooldown. Players who refuse to wait for a Reconnect are gambling a friend’s Responder.

What Unstuck actually does

Official 1.0 notes describe Unstuck as a teleport back to the last respawn point when world geometry traps you. There are two triggers:

  • Automatic. If you fall through the map, Unstuck Respawn fires without a menu dance. That is the fall-through safety net, not a parkour trick.
  • Manual. Open the pause menu and start Unstuck. You must stay still with no actions and no movement for 30 seconds for the relocate to complete. The Armageddon overview also frames manual Unstuck as usable about once every five minutes, so it is not a combat blink.

Those two details matter together. The 30-second still is the charge. The five-minute window is the budget. If you fidget, reload, shove, or walk, the charge dumps. If you just used it, wait before you try again. After hotfix 1.0.3.1, rebuild binds in Controls if the pause menu feels “empty”—that patch reset keybinds for many Early Access saves.

When to use it, and when not to

Use Unstuck when:

  • You are clipped into stairs, a crate, a hospital gurney, or a Raven Rock hatch lip.
  • You fell through a floor and the automatic relocate did not fire.
  • The squad can hear you but cannot see you, and you are not downed—you are in the mesh.

Do not use Unstuck when:

  • You want a free teleport to the extract pad.
  • You are in a grab and hope the 30-second still will ignore the zombie. It will not. You will die standing still.
  • You are hiding the fact that you looted a side room while the helicopter is spinning. Your last respawn may be a worse room than the one you clipped.

After a relocate, open the compass with C, call the new room, and check infection. Geometry recovery is not a medical reset. If pills were dropped in the clip, they are probably still in the old corner.

Reconnect after a map-load crash

1.0 added a Reconnect option when a player crashes during map load. That is the “I heard the match start and then the client died” case, not a mid-fight host migration. Practical squad rules:

  1. Do not kick at ten seconds. Give the crashed player about ninety seconds to hit Reconnect.
  2. Stay on the same difficulty and mode. A lobby that votes Nightmare while they are reconnecting is how you delete a friend’s main.
  3. Confirm the same client version. Mixed builds after Hotfix 1.0.3.1 or a future Hotfix 2 still cause “cannot party” evenings.
  4. If Reconnect fails twice, they should full-restart the game, then take an expendable Responder if the lobby already pushed into a Critical POI.

Reconnect will not restore a character who already permadied. It restores a player who never entered the world. If they were already downed in the mission, you are in regular revive / permadeath rules—see Progression & Permadeath.

Cross-play and region noise

Unstuck and Reconnect feel worse on high ping. Oceanic Australia (launch week) and Hong Kong (hotfix 1.0.3.1) exist so shove timing and pause-menu charges are not fighting 200 ms. If the 30-second still “never completes,” check Server Regions before you assume the tool is broken. Console players should also confirm the pause-menu focus bug from Launch Week Support is not eating their cursor.

Deck and Machine players: Unstuck still needs a stable frame so the 30-second timer is honest. Pair this page with Steam Deck and Performance Settings if hitching makes you look “stuck” when you are only frozen on a gore spike.

Squad script (say this out loud)

  • “I’m clipped, starting Unstuck, do not push the interact.”
  • “I fell through, waiting on auto relocate.”
  • “Crashed on load, hitting Reconnect, hold the lobby.”

Silent geometry deaths look like rage-quits. Named recoveries look like teamwork. That is the same social contract as infection callouts on Co-op Teamwork.

After you are free

  1. Compass. Confirm the current objective, not the room you intended.
  2. Inventory. A relocate can strand a carried fuse or gene-therapy injector.
  3. Difficulty honesty. Beginner timed respawns and Normal objective respawns are not Unstuck. Do not mix the words in voice chat—see Difficulty Modes.
  4. If Hotfix 2 later changes Normal extract respawns, this page still owns geometry and load crashes. Respawn fairness is a different lever.

Used correctly, Unstuck and Reconnect keep Armageddon’s permadeath aimed at zombies and bad decisions, not at a hospital cart and a GPU driver.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Responders preparing for the next deployment.

How long does manual Unstuck take?

Stay still with no actions for 30 seconds in the pause menu. Fidgeting cancels the charge.

Does Unstuck teleport me to extract?

No. It returns you to the last respawn point. Use it for geometry traps, not as a shortcut.

What is the automatic Unstuck?

Falling through the map should trigger Unstuck Respawn without opening the pause menu.

How often can I Unstuck?

The 1.0 overview describes manual Unstuck as about once every five minutes. Treat that as a cooldown, not a combat blink.

What does Reconnect fix?

Crashes during map load. Give the player about ninety seconds before you replace them.
