Hotfix 1.0.4.0 — NMRIH 2

Hotfix 1.0.4.0 shipped on August 25, 2026 as the third post-launch client update and the first patch that combines stability fixes with a real weapon-spread rebalance. It is build 24830003 on Steam, with console equivalents pending certification. This page documents every change players need to know before queuing the next session, plus which old habits are now obsolete.

Quick navigation

What changed in 1.0.4.0

Torn Banner published notes covering matchmaking fairness, bug fixes, balance adjustments, and the first real weapon spread tuning pass since the Armageddon 1.0 launch. Read the previous patch context first: Hotfix 1.0.3.1 (customization crashes, keybind reset, Hong Kong region) and Launch Week Support (Oceanic servers, shop price fixes). The dev roadmap lives on Beyond Armageddon.

Matchmaking and routing fixes

  • Region routing fixed — players in regions like continental Asia are now routed to the closest server. Test your server landing again after updating.
  • Disconnect forgiveness — certain Responders no longer die on disconnects that should have preserved the character. Combined with the announced disconnect-preservation improvements from the Beyond Armageddon blog, this is the first concrete fix.
  • “Server is full” error — eliminated when entering a match. Fewer lobby retries at peak hours.
  • Awaiting Respawn message — no longer appears when respawning is disabled. Survival and Objective modes both stop showing the false indicator.

Sensitivity ceiling raised

  • Mouse and controller sensitivity caps moved from 2 ➡️ 6. If you play at the old cap, recalibrate. Many launch-week sensitivity settings now feel different under the new ceiling.

Options menu quality of life

  • Added a confirmation prompt for Exit to Main Menu buttons.
  • Fixed the options menu repeatedly asking to save changes even when none had been made.

Scoreboard, mute, and report on controller

  • Fixed an issue preventing controller users from navigating to the scoreboard for mute, block, and report functionality.
  • Blocked players are now properly muted in voice and scoreboard flows.
  • This pairs with the September deadzone improvements announced in the Beyond Armageddon roadmap and unblocks a long-standing console complaint.

Weekly Assignment controller crash

  • The Weekly Assignment notification no longer causes controller input loss. If you missed assignments because the controller froze after the prompt, this is the fix.

Cosmetic and locker fixes

  • Early Access reward cosmetic options no longer display in the menu to players who do not own them.
  • A single item no longer appears equipped in multiple loadout slots.
  • Responder customization preview items can no longer be equipped, which previously blocked all cosmetic adjustments from saving.
  • UI focus is now stable when buying patterns and logos in the shop.

Carryables and healing items

  • Picking up a carryable item now cancels healing item consumption. Previously you could waste bandages or pills by accidentally picking up a generator or ammo crate.

Weapons database accuracy

  • The Fierra DB12 is now correctly recognized as a shotgun for Weekly Assignments. Players who relied on it for shotgun challenges finally see progress.
  • Weapons with incorrect ADS zoom values were corrected. ADS precision under the new sensitivity ceiling should match what each optic was designed to deliver.

Weapon spread rebalance

This is the headline change. Every weapon family saw its spread values reduced or its spread-per-shot raised to discourage spam-firing. The intent: make every shot land where the retor suggests at the new sensitivity ceiling. Expect the Weapons Tier List and Best Builds pages to shift after this patch.

Reduced initial and max spread

Most firearms received reduced initial spread and reduced max spread, which means the first bullet of a magazine lands closer to the crosshair and recoil does not bloom as hard:

  • M-class handguns (M1911, M9A3, Gruber MKVII family): initial spread dropped from 6 to 5 and 5 to 4.5 for ADS.
  • SMG-class (MP5, MC-15): initial spread trimmed, max spread tightened so spray does not punish short engagements as badly.
  • Long rifles (M7A1, M14 Battle Rifle): max spread cut to 18 from 20 and initial spread trimmed to 9 from 10.5. Feels meaningfully tighter on burst fire.
  • Shotguns (590A1, Fierra DB12): max spread dropped to 15 from 18, spread-per-shot raised to 1.1 from 1.0. Buckshot spreads more naturally per shell — lean into single-shot discipline.
  • Marksman rifles (Rochester 1873, Hunter 85): initial spread cut to 4 from 6 and initial ADS spread to 2.5 from 3.5. Aim down sights and tap-fire are king.

Increased spread per shot

Handguns and the Fierra saw spread per shot raised to 0.5 from 0.25. Spam-firing a sidearm no longer keeps the cone tight — it sprays like a real sidearm under recoil. Keep sidearms for emergencies, finishers, and door clearing. Lean on the Melee Combat page for ammo-light fights.

Moving spread multiplier reduced

Several weapons reduced the moving spread multiplier from 1.1–1.2 down to 0.9–1.0. Shooting on the move is finally usable for short repositioning bursts — pair this with stamina discipline so you do not trade movement for accuracy and end up grabbed.

Why this matters in permadeath

Spread changes cascade into role coverage. Sidearms can no longer carry a squad on their own. SMGs became more forgiving at close range, helping breachers and crowd-control kits. Marksman rifles tightened enough to reward patient aim, raising the value of dedicated sharpshooter kits. Build around the new behavior, not the launch-week behavior.

Survival Mode respawn rules

1.0.4.0 introduces a final respawn mechanic in Survival Mode:

  • A final respawn fires at the end of Wave 3 so the squad can regroup for the extraction sequence.
  • A final respawn fires at the start of extraction so a downed Responder does not miss the helicopter.
  • The Objective mode equivalent will land in a later update per the patch notes. Until then, Objective mode keeps the previous behavior.

Read the survival loop on Survival Mode and update your Survival habit: assume you will be revived once near extract, but do not bait waves just to test it. The Beyond Armageddon roadmap still lists Survival as a priority for future content.

Controller, UI, and quality of life

  • The settings menu no longer jumps back to the top after every option change. This was the August 13 launch-week bug listed as under investigation.
  • Scoreboard mute, block, and report are now reachable with a controller. Mixed-input squads finally have a clean way to deal with griefers.
  • Sensitivity ceiling 6 opens up fine-tuning for high-DPI mouse players and controller players who want faster turns.
  • Confirmation prompts on exit prevent accidental mid-match rage quits that risk disconnect penalties.

Weekly Assignment fixes

  • The Weekly Assignment notification no longer crashes controller input. Players on pad should now see assignments update without losing focus.
  • The Fierra DB12 shotgun now counts toward shotgun Weekly Assignments. Use it for any shotgun challenge you have been stuck on.

Weekly Assignments still pay six Merits on a full Tuesday reset per Weekly Assignments. The fixed Fierra DB12 recognition plus stable Weekly Assignment UI means you can complete more assignments cleanly — especially if you play on console.

Cosmetic and locker fixes

  • Early Access reward cosmetics are no longer visible to players who did not earn them. The locker menu matches your actual ownership.
  • A single item can no longer be equipped in multiple loadout slots. Each slot is unique; equip audits will not find ghost duplicates.
  • Preview items in customization are no longer equipped when you try them on. Adjustments save cleanly now.
  • UI focus stays on the shop when purchasing patterns and logos.

Combined with Hotfix 1.0.3.1 customization fixes, the locker should now be stable. Pair it with the Cosmetics and DLC page for pack context.

How to use this patch

  1. Update before queuing — mixed clients fail invites. Every squadmate must be on 1.0.4.0.
  2. Rebuild sensitivity from default — do not paste 1.0.3.1 values into the new ceiling. The new cap is triple the old one.
  3. Re-test weapon roles — spam-fire habits are punished now. Practice tap-fire on marksman rifles and disciplined trigger pulls on SMGs.
  4. Run one Survival lobby — confirm the new Wave-3 final respawn and extract respawn work in your lobby before committing a high-level Responder to Nightmare.
  5. Audit your locker — verify no Early Access ghost cosmetics remain and confirm loadout slots do not have duplicate items equipped.
  6. Re-check weekly assignment progress — shotgun challenges using the Fierra DB12 should now register kills and hits.
  7. Replay stuck achievements — any achievement that failed to pop on 1.0.3.x may register now that scoreboard, mute, and stability fixes are in.
  8. Tune your build — re-open Best Builds and Skills Tier List as new meta emerges. Sidearm-heavy roles need rethinking.

What this patch is not

It is not a content patch. No new maps, no new Survival arenas, no new Responders, no new skills, no new attachments. The Beyond Armageddon roadmap still rules future content for 2026.

It is not a permadeath rules change. Rescue Beacons still work the same way; infection still spreads the same way; helicopter extract and early-hatch extract still trigger under the same conditions.

It is not the September update. Controller deadzone fixes and new Lewiston / Pottsville permutations remain on the September roadmap per the Beyond Armageddon blog.
