2X XP Weekend — NMRIH 2

Torn Banner posted 2X Responder XP Weekend is now LIVE on August 27, 2026. From that announcement until August 31, 2026 at 12:00 EDT, every match grants doubled Responder (character) XP across all modes and all difficulties. That includes Scenario, Survival, Beginner through Nightmare, public lobbies, and private parties. This page is the practical plan for the window, not a recap of Early Access 2XP tests.

Official wording is specific: it is Responder XP, not a silent doubling of account XP, Credits, or Merits. Account XP still comes from completed objectives as usual. Weekly Assignments still pay their normal Merit board. Loadout shop prices did not change for the event. If a squadmate says “everything is double,” correct them before they waste a Rescue Beacon chasing the wrong currency.

What is actually doubled

Responder XP is the bar that levels the character you extract with. Supplies you bank, successful extracts, and the character XP multipliers already printed on Difficulty Modes still apply — then the weekend multiplies that Responder earn rate by two. A Normal extract that used to feel slow now funds skill slots faster. A Nightmare extract that already paid a premium now pays that premium twice on the character.

What is not advertised as doubled:

  • Account XP (objectives still grant it; the Steam note does not say it is 2X this weekend).
  • Credits from extracts or shop refunds.
  • Merits from the Tuesday Weekly Assignment board.
  • Cosmetic drop rates.

Treat those as baseline 1.0 economy. Spend the weekend on character growth, not on assuming the locker filled itself.

Why this weekend exists

The August 20 Beyond Armageddon blog already said Torn Banner would keep offering XP weekends after launch, with better in-game indicators later in Autumn. The August 27 Steam news is that promise landing as a live ops event, not a patch. No client download is required beyond being on current Hotfix 1.0.4.0 so you are not mixing builds in cross-play.

The clock is hard. 12:00 EDT on August 31 is noon Eastern, not midnight and not UTC. Convert once for your region (EDT is UTC−4 in late August) and set a party alarm. Queuing at 11:50 EDT and extracting at 12:10 does not magically keep the multiplier if the event has already flipped off — finish the match you started, but do not plan a second run after the cutoff.

How to spend the hours without wiping a main

Permadeath did not take the weekend off. Doubled XP on a deleted Responder is still zero. Use this loop:

  1. Update first. Everyone on 1.0.4.0 (Steam build 24830003; PlayStation 5 listed 1.006 for the same notes). Mixed clients fail invites.
  2. Pick one Responder to feed. Do not rotate five alts unless you already have All-Star Cast in mind. The weekend is short; depth beats a roster of Level 12s.
  3. Play the mode you already finish. If your squad extracts Scenario on Normal, stay there. Survival’s three-wave contract is faster XP per hour only if you actually win three holds — a wipe on Wave 2 still costs the character.
  4. Raise difficulty only if the squad already owns the map. Higher difficulties already print better XP multipliers; 2X on top of Nightmare is excellent and lethal. Read Difficulty Modes before you ego-queue.
  5. Equip a Rescue Beacon on the character you care about. The 1.0.4.0 fix also stopped Beacons from vanishing when you leave a match — still do not alt-tab out mid-extract.
  6. Bank extracts. Wait through the end screen. Doubled XP that never saves is a forum post, not a level.

Scenario vs Survival during 2X

Scenario (Broadway, Lewiston, Pottsville, Beaulieu, Power Plant, Raven Rock) pays more when you complete Critical POIs and extract with supplies. If your group already knows a map, a clean Normal or Hard extract during 2X is the safest way to push Responder level. Use the matching walkthroughs from the Guides Hub rather than learning Raven Rock on August 30 with a Level 40 you cannot replace.

Survival (Flooded, Lighthouse, NOTLD) is shorter. After 1.0.4.0 you also get a final respawn at the end of Wave 3 and at the start of extraction. That makes Survival a reasonable XP farm if the squad can hold speakers — it does not make it a deathless arcade. Two failed waves still open early extract; take it if the hold is gone.

Solo Mode remains practice without online permadeath and without the progression you came for. Do not spend the weekend in Solo expecting 2X to stick to a live Responder.

Infection and stamina still end runs

Faster leveling does not slow grabs. Keep How to Treat Infection and Stamina, Shove & Kick in the same bookmark folder as this page. A doubled XP bar on a turning teammate is how public lobbies donate characters. Call pills early. Do not dump the stamina bar on Wave 3 because “XP is double.”

Inventory greed is the other wipe. Inventory & Weight still applies: specialize calibers, drop junk before the helicopter, share meds. A mule who cannot sprint to the LZ wastes the event.

After August 31

When the multiplier drops, your Responder keeps the levels you banked. Skills, loadout unlocks, and permadeath risk go back to the normal earn rate. Future weekends are promised in the Beyond Armageddon blog, with UI indicators still listed as a later Autumn deliverable — do not wait for a toast in-game this week; the Steam news is the indicator.

If you missed the August 24 login window for the three free Merits from the launch thank-you, that window is closed. This XP event does not replace those Merits. Spend Weekly Assignments as usual on Weekly Assignments.

Play scared, extract often, and treat 12:00 EDT on the 31st as a hard stop — not a suggestion.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Responders preparing for the next deployment.

When does the 2X Responder XP weekend end?

August 31, 2026 at 12:00 EDT (noon Eastern, UTC−4). Convert once for your timezone and finish extracts before you plan another queue.

Is account XP doubled too?

The official note specifies doubled Responder XP earn rate. Account XP, Credits, and Merits are not advertised as 2X for this window.

Does it work in Survival and on Nightmare?

Yes. The post says all modes and all difficulties. Survival still has permadeath online; Nightmare still hits harder.

Do I need a new patch to get 2X?

No new content patch. Be on Hotfix 1.0.4.0 so matchmaking works, then play. The multiplier is a live-ops flag.

Should I risk my main Responder?

Only if you already extract that map on that difficulty. Equip a Rescue Beacon. Doubled XP does not refund a wipe.
