Early Extraction in No More Room in Hell 2

Leave a doomed run on purpose: keep the Responder, give up the full payday.

Early Extraction — NMRIH 2

Early extraction is the CRC’s mercy valve, not a speedrun. Torn Banner’s 1.0 launch notes are blunt: after a short period in a run, early extract opens so Responders can preserve their lives when the mission feels insurmountable. You keep the character. You receive no character progression and only a small portion of Credits. Final extraction at the helicopter still pays character XP and Credits equal to the whole team’s Supplies. If you treat the hatch like a farm, you will stall skills and still die the next night on a pad you never practiced.

This page separates the three live 1.0 ways early extract actually appears: the timed CRC option on Objective maps, the green hatch when the living roster collapses, and Survival’s two failed speaker waves. Pair it with How to Extract for the helicopter loop and How to Treat Infection when the reason you want the hatch is a turn timer.

What you keep and what you forfeit

Official 1.0 economy language is the contract:

  • Final extract: character XP for the surviving Responder, plus Credits from the squad’s collected Supplies.
  • Early extract: Responder lives and returns to the campsite. Character XP for that deployment is gone. Credits are a reduced slice, not the full supply conversion.
  • Account XP from objectives you already finished still counts. The account does not need the helicopter to remember that you powered a radio or cleared a Critical POI.

Stay until the match fully resolves after you drop into a bunker. The same end-screen rule as a helicopter win applies: leaving the client immediately can cost the save you just bought with pride.

Objective maps: wait for the CRC, then commit

On Scenario / Objective maps, early extraction is not available the second you spawn. The CRC announces that the option is live after the deployment has been running for a while. Hunting an inactive hatch in the first minutes is how squads waste the opening loot window and split the group.

When the call comes:

  1. Confirm on VoIP (hold E near teammates) that someone is actually taking it.
  2. Read the compass on C. Early exits are marked when they are real; do not invent a bunker from memory of last week’s Broadway.
  3. If a local wiring or bunker-prep interactable is required, finish it before you assume the hatch will open.
  4. Move as a pair if two of you are leaving. A solo walk through a collapsing downtown is how “safe” extracts become permadeath anyway.

Take the timed option when the finale is clearly unwinnable, gene therapy is gone, pills will not cover the helicopter wait, or the remaining Critical chain needs bodies you no longer have. Stay for the helicopter when the squad is stable, stocked, and still holding roles — that is how Progression & Permadeath actually moves.

Green hatches when three or fewer remain

A second Objective trigger still matters in public lobbies: if living Responders drop to three or fewer, green hatch icons can appear across the map. Reach a hatch, open it, and descend. This is a collapse tool, not a “we are bored” tool. The same XP and Credit penalties apply.

Call the count out loud. Silent third-last players who vanish into a hatch without warning leave two people to finish a finale designed for a stack. If you are the last skilled Responder, say so before you drop. If you are on an expendable character, staying to mule Supplies for the others can be the more useful gift.

Survival: two failed waves, then leave

Survival Mode uses a different mercy rule. You defend speakers through three five-minute waves. Win all three and the helicopter LZ is the real extract. Fail two waves and early extraction opens so a spiraling hold does not have to become a full wipe. That is official 1.0 design, not a community rumor.

After Hotfix 1.0.4.0, Survival also grants a final respawn at the end of Wave 3 and at the start of extraction. That is extra oxygen for a successful hold, not a reason to ignore the two-fail hatch. If the speakers already failed twice, do not wait for a third humiliation because someone wants a clip.

Map-specific holds live on Survival Mode, Flooded, Lighthouse, and Night of the Living Dead.

When early extract is the correct call

Leave early when:

  • Infection is late-stage, pills are empty, and Gene Therapy is not in the match.
  • The remaining objective is a long noisy finale and you have no ammo, no stamina, and no rear security.
  • You are protecting a main Responder in a silent public lobby that already threw two lives.
  • Survival has failed two speaker waves and the LZ will be a graveyard.

Stay when:

  • Gene therapy is mid two-step inject and you can cover the user.
  • The helicopter is already inbound and you can sprint with a light bag.
  • Only one player wants to leave and the rest can still complete the CRC chain.

A Rescue Beacon does not replace this decision. Insurance burns on a pad death; the hatch avoids the death.

Checklist

  1. Wait for the CRC (Objective) or the two-fail rule (Survival). Do not hunt dead hatches at spawn.
  2. Announce who is leaving and who is finishing.
  3. Drop overweight loot that will not convert; keep pills if you might still turn on the walk.
  4. Board or bunker, then wait for the end screen.
  5. Next queue: rebuild on Loadouts & Credits instead of instantly re-rolling Nightmare.

Early extraction exists because permadeath is real. Use it like a professional: rarely, loudly, and before the turn animation starts.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Responders preparing for the next deployment.

Does early extraction give character XP?

No. Official 1.0 notes: no character progression and only a small portion of Credits. Final helicopter extract pays the full supply conversion.

When does early extract open on Objective maps?

After a short period the CRC announces it. Separately, green hatches can appear when three or fewer Responders remain alive.

When does Survival early extract open?

After two failed speaker waves. Three successful waves still lead to the helicopter LZ.

Do I keep account XP if I hatch out?

Account XP from objectives you already completed is retained. Character XP for that run is forfeited.

Should I wait on the end screen after a bunker extract?

Yes. Progress finalizes when the match resolves. Closing the client immediately can drop the save.
