Barricades & Equipment — NMRIH 2

Utility items decide more No More Room in Hell 2 extracts than a second rifle. Boards, a nailer, flashlight batteries, a satchel, ranger boots, armor, and adrenaline sit in the same weight bar as ammo. After Armageddon 1.0 they still do not make you immortal. They buy seconds: seconds to finish a speaker wave, seconds to heal, seconds to finish both gene therapy clicks.

This page is the field manual for those seconds. Weapon rankings stay on the Weapons Tier List. Weight math stays on Inventory & Weight.

Barricade boards and the nailer

Barricade boards are a stack of wood you hold in inventory. Walk to a valid window or door, hold interact, and the board goes up. Without a nailer the place takes about a second. With a nailer it is nearly instant. Instant sounds friendly until you nail the only door your mule still needs.

Rules that keep friends:

  • Barricade chokes you intend to hold, not every door on Broadway.
  • Call “nailing the alley window” on VoIP (hold E).
  • Leave an agreed exit. A sealed stairwell is a tomb when runners spawn behind you.
  • Teammates must break each board to pass. Griefing with boards is how pubs vote with bullets later.
  • Zombies still break barricades. Treat them as a delay, not a win condition.
  • Shoving with empty hands can break boards too — useful if you nailed yourself in, disastrous if you smash the hold by accident.

Kick rules from community teaching: some interior doors give; barred or specially marked doors do not. If it does not go, stop making noise and use the compass.

Survival maps love a two-board window on Flooded catwalks and a disciplined door on Night of the Living Dead. Scenario finales still need someone who can open the route again.

Flashlight batteries — Q is a weapon swap

Two-handed guns and two-handed melee fight the flashlight for your hands. Default Q (or the flashlight bind) toggles light versus weapon. Loot in the dark with the light on; fight with it off unless you cannot see the runner. Leaving the beam on drains D-cell packs. Nightmare and dark interiors will run you to a dead light if you treat it like a helmet lamp.

To replace batteries: have the pack in inventory, switch to the flashlight, hold use until the charge fills. The pack is consumed. Carry one spare into Raven Rock and Lighthouse interiors. Cosmetic flashlights from DLC look different and still eat the same cells — see Deluxe Edition.

Satchel, boots, armor, adrenaline

These are passives as long as they stay in the bag:

  • Satchel: community teaching for 1.0 is roughly 5.5 kg on the item for about +2.5 kg capacity, a net gain around 2 kg. Launch-week shop notes raised Satchel from 450 to 1500 Credits — it is a logistics buy, not a starter impulse. Confirm live shop prices in-game.
  • Ranger boots: about 0.5 kg, cutting footstep and landing noise. Worth it on stealth-sensitive Objective maps.
  • Body armor: damage resistance while carried/worn. It does not stop infection rolls.
  • Adrenaline shot: raises maximum stamina while in inventory. Pair with Stamina, Shove & Kick.

Do not carry three passives and no bandage. A satchel full of mixed calibers is still a death sentence; specialize ammo first.

Carryables versus utility

Objective props (fuel, laptops, radios) occupy hands and cancel good habits. After 1.0.4.0, grabbing a carryable should not randomly abort a heal — still finish the kit first. Assign a carrier who is not also the only nailer or the only gene-therapy holder.

Shop loadouts should fix a failure mode: light, melee, Beacon, satchel if you constantly drop loot. They should not add a second rifle you cannot feed. Loadouts & Credits and Rescue Beacon belong in that conversation.

Checklist

  1. Boards for a planned choke, not every door.
  2. Nailer if you must reseal under pressure.
  3. Spare D-cells; Q off in combat.
  4. Satchel only if the net weight helps the mule role.
  5. Leave an exit the squad agreed on.

Utility is how eight people share a building without becoming a pile. Nail like a Responder, not like a troll.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Responders preparing for the next deployment.

How do I barricade a door in NMRIH 2?

Carry barricade boards, look at a valid door or window, and hold interact. A nailer makes the place nearly instant.

Can barricades grief teammates?

Yes. Each board must be broken to pass. Always call the nail and leave an agreed exit.

How do flashlight batteries work?

D-cell packs refill the light when you hold use on the flashlight. Toggle with Q so two-handed weapons can fight.

Is the satchel worth the weight?

It costs mass but raises capacity for a small net gain. Buy it to stay a mule, not to hoard seven ammo types.

Does armor stop infection?

No. Armor reduces damage. Infection still needs pills or Gene Therapy.
