Patch holes, heal allies with E, save the revive syringe for a true down — infection is a different kit.

How to Heal — NMRIH 2

Healing in No More Room in Hell 2 is two jobs that new players mash together: stop bleeding and restore HP, and stop NPV from turning you. Bandages and medkits do the first job. Phalanx Pills and Gene Therapy do the second. Mixing them up is how a full-HP Responder still becomes a zombie on the helicopter pad.

This page covers self-use, healing a teammate with E, the revive syringe, and the 1.0.4.0 carryable rule. Infection stages stay on How to Treat Infection. Inventory weight for stacking meds sits on Inventory & Weight.

Bandages and medkits — you have to stand still

Loot bandages and medkits in buildings, trunks, and POI vaults. Put them on a quick slot from the inventory wheel (Tab): drag the item onto one of the four slots so you are not fishing mid-grab.

  • Bandages restore a modest chunk of HP and finish faster. Use them for chip damage so you are not entering a Critical POI already one grab from empty.
  • Medkits restore a large chunk and take longer. Use them after a bad trade, before a finale, or when a teammate is about to become a corpse. The animation is loud in the sense that you are not fighting. Shove first, then heal.

To heal yourself, equip the item and use the primary action (left click on PC). Watch the compass heartbeat / health read so you do not waste a kit at 95%. Community teaching numbers put bandages around a small patch and medkits closer to a full stabilize — treat in-game UI as truth if a patch retunes values.

You cannot melee-fight through the animation. A runner that reaches you mid-kit is how “I was healing” becomes permadeath. Close a door, nail a barricade, or have someone hold the hallway.

Heal teammates with E — do not only drop loot

If an ally is injured and you have a bandage or medkit, walk up and press E to apply it to them. This is faster than arguing in text chat and safer than forcing a panicked player to find the wheel. Hold E anyway to establish VoIP so they can say “I’m infected, not just low HP.”

If you have surplus and they would rather self-use, open inventory and right-click drop. Call the drop: “medkit at the diner door.” Silent drops in dark Broadway alleys are how kits vanish into the floor.

Do not steal the last medkit from the person who is about to start a two-step gene inject. Cover them instead.

Revive syringe — a down is not the same as infection

The revive syringe is a loadout / loot tool for when you go down and still have a prompt to self-get-up. It does not cure NPV. If the syringe prompt appears, use it in cover; popping it in a grab pile just stands you up into another down.

Shop copies are expensive and gated (high account and character investment in community loadout tables). Do not buy one before pills, a reliable melee, and a Rescue Beacon if you are protecting a main. See Loadouts & Credits.

If a teammate is down without a syringe, you still help with bandages/medkits once they are up, or by clearing the grabbers so they can crawl. NMRIH 2 is not a hero-shooter revive-on-cooldown game. Distance and stamina matter more than a magic beam.

Hotfix 1.0.4.0: carryables and healing

Hotfix 1.0.4.0 fixed an issue where picking up a carryable cancelled healing unexpectedly. The patch made that interaction more honest. You should still not grab a generator, laptop, or fuel can in the middle of a medkit on purpose. Finish the kit, then take the objective item. The inverse is also true: if you are the designated carrier, let someone else bandage you before you pick up the prop.

What healing will not do

  • It will not remove infection. Veins, coughs, voices, and psychosis are Gene Therapy or pills plus extract.
  • It will not refill stamina. That is rest, adrenaline as a passive if you carry it, and not sprinting every hallway.
  • It will not save a Responder who already turned. Shoot or self-sacrifice; do not medkit a zombie with your friend’s face.

Match plan

  1. Slot a bandage before the first Critical POI.
  2. Heal chip damage in dead rooms, not on the pad.
  3. Use E on injured teammates who freeze in the wheel.
  4. Keep one medkit for the finale or for the gene-therapy user.
  5. If HP is fine but NPV is not, stop looting kits and start routing to a hatch or a cure.

Healthy Responders still lose to infection, weight, and silence. Healing is the boring half of staying human. Do it on purpose.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Responders preparing for the next deployment.

How do I heal myself in NMRIH 2?

Equip a bandage or medkit from a quick slot and use the primary action. Bandages are faster and smaller; medkits take longer and restore more.

How do I heal a teammate?

Walk up with a bandage or medkit and press E. You can also drop the item from inventory if they prefer to self-use.

Does a medkit cure infection?

No. Infection needs Phalanx Pills to delay and Experimental Gene Therapy to remove. Extract also clears NPV after you leave.

What does the revive syringe do?

It lets you get up from a down when the prompt appears. It is not a gene-therapy substitute and should be used in cover.

Can grabbing a carryable cancel my heal?

Hotfix 1.0.4.0 fixed unexpected cancel bugs. Still finish the animation before you pick up objective props.
