No More Room in Hell 2 Campsite: Three Responders

Official 1.0 roster cap is three. Protect a main, spend a spare, never queue your only life into silence.

Campsite & Responders — NMRIH 2

Torn Banner’s 1.0 welcome post is easy to skip and expensive to ignore: you manage up to three Responders at your campsite, each with a short background and a starting skill, slowly building loadouts for different modes and difficulties. That cap is the whole roster strategy. No More Room in Hell 2 is not a twenty-character live-service bench. Three bunks means you must decide who is the main, who is the spare, and who is the lesson.

This page is how to use those three lives after Armageddon (August 11, 2026) across Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. XP tracks stay on Progression & Permadeath. Shop spending stays on Loadouts & Credits.

What a campsite Responder is

Each Responder is a deployable person, not a class slot you swap mid-match. They keep character XP, skill slots, and the loadout you bought for that body. When permadeath deletes them, that bunk is empty. Account XP and the wider skill catalog remain. You create a new person and start character growth again.

Starting skills come from background flavor. Do not spend rare Expert rerolls on the lesson character. Read How to Unlock Skills and the Skills Tier List before you treat a public Nightmare as a personality test.

You pick the mission type (Objective vs Survival) and difficulty before you pick who walks in. The CRC assigns the job; you assign the meat. That order is why people accidentally queue a level-40 main into a silent Hard Broadway.

A practical three-bunk plan

Bunk 1 — Main. Rare skills, Beacon if you can afford the slot, pills in the kit. Use on Normal/Hard with people who talk, or on Survival after you learned the map in Solo Mode. Equip a Rescue Beacon when the character is worth more than the Credit tax.

Bunk 2 — Spare. Good enough melee, empty ego. Public lobbies, first clears of Raven Rock, trophy attempts on Achievements that ask you to do something stupid with guns. If they die, you still have a main.

Bunk 3 — Lesson. Brand-new or nearly so. Training Grounds, Beginner extracts, and “I will learn infection the hard way.” Do not put Deluxe hats on this one and then cry — see Deluxe Edition.

If all three are high-level, you have no shock absorber. Retire a main on purpose (stop deploying them) when you are tilted. A living unused Responder is still a Responder.

Loadouts are per person

Credits spent on a shotgun for Bunk 1 do not appear in Bunk 2’s hands. Plan weekly assignments around the body you will actually deploy this Tuesday. Satchel, nailer, and Beacon decisions belong on Barricades & Equipment and the Beacon guide — duplicate only what you can recopy after a wipe.

Customization is also per Responder. Heavy patterns crashed lockers at launch; Hotfix 1.0.3.1 helped. Do not dress all three in the densest DLC the night you also learn gene therapy two-clicks.

When a bunk goes empty

A deleted Responder is not an account wipe. Rebuild:

  1. Do not immediately recreate “the same build” on Nightmare.
  2. Run Solo Mode for the map that killed them.
  3. Extract on Beginner/Normal until the new body has slots.
  4. Rebuy essentials, not the whole closet.

If disconnects deleted someone unfairly, read Unstuck & Reconnect and Known Issues. 1.0.4.0 improved some disconnect forgiveness; it is not a promise.

Social contract at the campsite

Tell the lobby which bunk you brought. “Main, please don’t meme the pad” is a complete sentence. “Whatever, I have two more” is also a complete sentence — say it so the stack does not play around your secret main.

Cross-play does not share your three bunks. Your friend on PS5 has their own campsite. Party rules live on Play with Friends.

Checklist

  1. Keep one expendable body for pubs.
  2. Never ready a main into a mute Hard lobby on purpose.
  3. Spend Credits on the bunk you will queue tonight.
  4. After a wipe, learn the room in Solo before restaking the new main.
  5. Three is the cap — play like it.

The campsite is small because the game wants every extract to matter. Treat the three bunks like a fire team, not a costume rack.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Responders preparing for the next deployment.

How many Responders can I keep in NMRIH 2?

Official 1.0 notes: up to three at the campsite. Each has their own XP, skills, and loadout.

Does killing one Responder wipe the account?

No. Account XP and the skill catalog persist. That character’s levels and equipped build are what permadeath removes.

Should all three bunks be high level?

Usually no. Keep a spare or lesson character for public lobbies and messy first clears.

Do loadouts share across Responders?

No. Credits and equipped gear belong to the body you bought them for. Plan shops per bunk.

When do I pick the Responder?

After you choose the mission type and difficulty. Do not lock a main into a queue you have not read.
